Aloha! Greetings from the Makahuena in beautiful Kauai! Rocco and I had a fabulous first day and are SO happy to finally be here! The weather is PERFECT and our condo is beautiful (Thanks Scotty and Patricia!).

Speaking of our condo... here's a funny story for you! Rocco and I got in around 8pm last night (11pm Seattle time), picked up our rental car (of course Rocco had to get a Jeep Wrangler!), and headed to the condo at The Makahuena about 20 minutes from the airport. Once we got there we went to the office where they were supposed to leave us a key outside because it was after hours and guess what... NO KEY! :) Thankfully there was a sign on the door telling guests to go to the condo of the "after hours manager" onsite for questions, emergencies, etc. so we headed over there to see what the deal was. The office manager was as confused as we were so we knew something wasn't right... He said he had no information on our reservations and was not given any keys to give us. At this point I was about to go Bridezilla on him! :) He walked us back to the actual office where he eventually found our reservation but he still didnt understnad why he was not left any information on us, let alone our keys! He still doesn't understand though why he wasn't left any keys or information for us. So... he finally just grabs us the extra keys and sends us on our way. We FINALLY get up to our condo after 3 flights of stairs and 4 suitcases and as we are unlocking the door and walking in, we are greeted by a guy IN the room who claims that this is HIS room. We are SO embarrassed and are convinced the office manager gave us the wrong keys so Rocco stays there with the bags while I go figure out what in the heck is going on. So I go back to the night managers room and explain to him what just happened and he immediatly calls up to the room to find out what in the heck is going on ... Turns out, the man in the room was not only there a day early, but he grabbed the wrong room keys. LUCKILY for the guy and the night manager, he had only been in there about 20 minutes (he was apparently on the same flight but we took longer because we had to pick up our car) so all he had really done was put his bags down and was watching TV. For those of you who know how big of a germaphobe I am, I would have gone bridezilla on him if the condo wasn't clean. So- after all the drama, the guy got the boot and we finally got settled into our gorgeous condo! Hey- something like this had to happen, otherwise we wouldn't have had a story to tell on our first blog!
After a good nights sleep, we woke up and immediately went in search for a Starbucks!!! Thankfully there is one right down the street so we were able to start the day off with an iced Venti non fat Chai Tea and a triple Grande sugar-free caramel soy extra hot Latte. Yes- Rocco's is the high maintenance drink. Of course I had to get some Kauai Starbucks goodies and then we were on our way... we spent most of the morning driving around with the jeep top down checking out the town and then stopped to pick up groceries. We only filled up our cart about half way but still managed to spend $250 bucks. I forgot how expensive Hawaii is! Shessh! Once we got back and unloaded the groceries, we were off to the beach! We spent a few hours down at Poipu Beach relaxing, reading, swimming, etc. The best part about the beach today was running into two Hawaiian Monk Seals! They are regulars at Poipu Beach and don't seem to mind people swimming, snorkeling, and snapping pictures all around them. They are really fun to watch! After the beach we did some more site seeing, shopping (Rocco was thrilled) and driving around in the jeep listening to cheesy Hawaiian stations. Now we are back at the condo and ready to call it a night. Here are some pictures for day 1... stay tuned for more! :)
Mahalo,
The Creas
